A Simple French Toast Recipe from My Old Magazine

| French Toast |
I like toast, but I usually lean towards the savory kind — like a sandwich, or a slice with sunny-side-up eggs, tomatoes, and sausage. In fact, that’s my staple breakfast.
But occasionally, I crave something sweeter to pair with my savory sides. And this French toast recipe is the one I always go back to.
I actually found it in an old health magazine — back before the internet was even a thing. It’s been with me for years, and I’ve always loved it. Since it was printed in a magazine, I like to think it was tested (and perfected!) by the editors before it got published. So yes, I trust it completely. It’s simple, comforting, and always turns out right.
If you’re in the mood for something classic and easy, give this a try.

French Toast (from my old health magazine)
Serves: 2–3
Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 10 mins
🧈 Ingredients
-
4 slices Swiss Sunday Bread (or brioche / any soft bread, cut thicker, about 2½ cm)
-
60 ml fresh milk
-
1 egg, beaten
-
20 g butter
🥣 Method
-
Soak the Bread
Dip each slice of bread into milk for about 5 seconds, then into the beaten egg. -
Cook the Toast
Heat butter in a frying pan. Fry the bread until golden brown on both sides. -
Serve
Serve warm with honey or your favorite fruit.
*Tip :For a fun twist, cut the French toast into small squares and drizzle with honey. Or, skewer them like little satay bites and let kids dip them into honey from a small bowl.
This is such an easy, foolproof recipe — perfect for a weekend breakfast. It’s a little nostalgic for me every time I make it, and it reminds me how comforting old magazine recipes can be.
